What if religion itself is a trial?
I’ve heard my teacher tell me and the rest of the students that whatever sucky (clearly that was not the word he used) things happen in life, they’re merely tests to see if we’re strong faithful human beings deserving a place in heaven. What I have never heard is him explaining the odd bits of the religious teaching. You know, the apparent bias and seemingly-violent take against “non-believers” and those who have “strayed” (and not to mention the unreasonable definition of “strayed”).
What if those bits were thrown in there as pop quizzes, so to speak? To see if people actually use their minds and do the right sensible things or blindly follow something so blatantly intolerant and unkind and then label their despicable actions as something so supposedly-virtuous as “religion”.
